The NUTS group played another big table Eastern Front game recently, with two German and one Romanian forces facing off against three Soviet forces.
Bart and Dave ran the Soviets, and they had a formidable array of heavy armor, both IS-2s and heavy assault guns, backed up with lots of T-34/85s.
Gary fielded a Panther formation, while Mike had a German Recon formation and I fielded a Romanian T4 Company for the Axis side. We were out armored but not heavily out gunned, and the terrain allowed us to tackle their individual units separately, which really helped.
The heavy Soviet armor is tough, and it initially looked like a Soviet breakthough all along the line. But massed Axis firepower gradually whittled the Soviet forces down. This allowed us to just barely take a majority of the objectives by the end of the game. An overall tense and well balanced game.
