Garry, Shawn and I got together for another game of WW3 Team Yankee, and we decided to try the new mission "Scouts Out". We used 240 points per side, on a four by twelve foot table set with typical West German terrain.
Garry tried an interesting Soviet force, with two units of T-80s supporting a large T-55 formation and a large BTR Mech formation. This gave him a nice combination of mass and power. Shawn ran a US heavy armored force, with small units of M1A1HCs, while I ran a Dutch Mech formation, with Leopards in support.
The mission was interesting, we started in opposite corners with lots of room for Spearhead moves, especially on our long table. The terrain created choke points in the center, with a stream crossed by a critical bridge that became the focus of the fighting.
Garyy pushed forward aggressively, but I got a Dutch Mech platoon across the stream that heroically managed to repulse several company sized infantry assaults, before finally being wiped out by Shock T-80s. But bthey bought us enough time to bring our reserve armor up, blunting the Soviet thrust and securing a hard fought draw. An overall tense and well balanced game.
